Obituary

Mark Alan Armstrong, 60 of Montebello, California went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Mark was born to Roland and Janice (Gehron) in Dayton, Ohio on November 9th, 1960.  He was raised in Medway, Ohio – a one traffic light community near Dayton.  Growing up in the United Methodist Church Mark was a well-rounded student/athlete who participated in choir, football, and wrestling.  He also enjoyed spending time with both family and friends – a highlight of summers was baling hay with his uncle Bob and cousin Larry at his grandparents’ farm.
Mark was a 1978 honor graduate of Tecumseh High School.  He continued his education at The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1983.  While in college Mark was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Among other things he was proud that he was responsible for acquiring a replacement firetruck for the Pikes.  Following graduation he started his career at Keebler in Cincinnati, Ohio.  At Keebler Mark was the first engineer to get Soft Batch Cookies into production.  New Year’s 1985 Mark transferred with Keebler to Van Nuys, California. Following his time at Keebler Mark went to work for Entenmann’s  where he would finish his career.
While at Entenmann’s mutual friends introduced him to Dora Urquidi who would become the love of his life.  Mark and Dora married on December 28th, 2003 in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at The Lodge at Rancho Mirage.  The Desert became a very special place for them and they eventually split their time between Montebello and Cathedral City.
Mark will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful son, and the world’s best big brother.  Mark was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Frank & Mary (Blackburn) Armstrong and Lewis & Thelma (Gause) Gehron, his in-laws Manuel & Demetria (Caballero) Urquidi, and his father Roland Armstrong.  He is survived by his loving wife Dora (Urquidi) Armstrong, his mother Janice (Gehron) Armstrong, his sister Kim Armstrong, three aunts Donna Kay Dewey, Opal Armstrong, Donna Armstrong, several cousins and many friends.
