He restored, designed, and built furniture and carved miniature dolphins in his later years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, having won several Fish Ohio awards for his record trout. He was a proud Kentucky Wildcat fan and passionately followed Kentucky basketball for over seventy years. He loved to garden and maintained a flourishing vegetable garden until age 92. He was honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2013 to visit the World War II Memorial accompanied by his son Steve. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 68 years and children Steve (Vicki), Jeannie Hollingsworth, Cindy (Gary) Gulden, and Emily (Jim) Monnin; grandchildren Jon (Sunshine) Durall, Jason (Dixie) Brookins, Amanda (Mike) Dunphy, Rebecca Gulden, Christina (Nate) Weaver, Anne Monnin, Katherine Monnin, and Elisabeth Monnin; six great grandchildren, and a sister Faye Brown.
