Sylvia M. (Cornell) (Fagan) Whitaker

86, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on October 10, 2016 at 2:06 a.m. Sylvia was surrounded by the love of her family at her passing. She was born on July 28, 1930 in Selma, OH, the daughter of the late George Edward and Carrie Ethel (Hunt) Cornell. Sylvia was an active member of the Nazarene church for 43 years. She enjoyed camping, fishing, many winters in Florida, and above all, her family. She retired from Springfield City Schools. Sylvia is survived by her husband of 50 years as of November 18, 2016, Donald E. Whitaker; six children and spouses, William & Brenda Fagan of Urbana, Timothy & Jessica Fagan of Enon, Rebecca & Dean Turner of Middletown, Kenneth & Amy Whitaker of Woodstock, Donald Jr. & Ruth Whitaker of Huber Heights, and Larry & Debbie Whitaker of Kingscreek; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Noah "Mick" (Marion) Cornell of Springfield and Walter "Butch" (Sandy) Cornell of South Charleston; four sisters, Chloie (James) Miller, Lulabell Black, Betty (Cecil) Wilson, all of Springfield, and Shirley (Terry) Wead of Cogan Station, PA. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes White,Barbara Krieg, andCatherine Burbaand two brothers, Edward Cornell and Cecil Cornell. Visitation will be held on Friday October 14, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, OH. The service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Pastors Joe & Victoria Case from the Nazarene Church will officiate. Burial will New Carlisle Cemetery.
