Steven Jay "Curly" Scott

Steven Jay “Curly” Scott, 72, of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away on September 28, 2026.

Known to family and friends as Curly, Steve was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, farmer, mechanic, storyteller, and friend to just about anyone he met. He had a way of making people feel like they had known him forever, and he truly never met a stranger.

Curly loved his family deeply, but there was a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He was incredibly proud of the families his children had created, and he would light up whenever he talked about his grandkids. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and the memories he made with them will be treasured for generations to come.

Curly spent much of his life doing what he loved—working the family farm alongside his father and brother. He raised livestock and farmed the family farm until his health no longer allowed him to continue. Farming wasn't simply a job to Curly; it was a way of life, a family tradition, and something he took great pride in.

If it had an engine, Curly probably loved it. Tractors, trucks, hot rods, Harleys—he enjoyed them all. He especially loved drag racing and could spend hours talking about anything with wheels and a motor. And if something with four wheels wasn't running right, Curly was usually the person you wanted to call. He could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand. Whether you needed help with a vehicle, a project, or simply needed someone to show up, Curly was there... usually late, but he would be there.

Curly was also known for his quick wit, his love of a good time, and his ability to talk to absolutely anyone. He could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and, before long, you'd swear you'd been friends for years. He loved to laugh, loved to tell a story, and was often the life of the party. He loved old rock and roll music and was known to get a case of his “happy feet” And, of course, many who knew him will forever remember Curly in his familiar bib overalls—a look that suited him perfectly.

Curly is survived by his children, Stefanie (Derek) Roberts, Dustin (Casey) Scott, and Tracy (Mike) Patrick; grandchildren, Kael, Landree, and Kashton Scott, Lakelynn and Evie Roberts, Dylan Stevens, Scott Terry, and Connor Patrick; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Oakley, and Grayson Terry; sister, Phyllis Pencil; and brother, Jimmie (Pat) Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Gladys Scott and brother-in-law Dean Pencil.

Curly leaves behind a lifetime of memories—of farm days, engines and racing, stories and laughter, helping friends, family gatherings, and countless conversations with anyone willing to listen. Most of all, he leaves behind a family who knew without a doubt how much he loved them.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved. And somewhere, we're sure, Curly is already finding an engine that needs fixing, a story that needs telling, and somebody new to talk to.
