Stephen Douglas “Doug” Fields, 52, of New Carlisle, passed away Sunday, February 22nd, 2026.
Doug was born January 4th, 1974, the son of Stephen E. and Brenda K. (Miller) Fields. Doug grew up on Merritt Street in Springfield, and made many lifelong friendships running around with the neighborhood kids. He attended Springfield North and went on to graduate from the HVAC program at Clark County JVS in 1992. While attending JVS, Doug won gold in the VICA regional competition, won silver at the state level, and started his lifelong career as an HVAC technician. He went on to teach adult education classes at JVS, was on the advisory committee for many years and In 2024, was inducted into the CTC hall of fame. Throughout his career as an HVAC technician he worked for many companies including Delong Air, Clark’s A/C and Heating, Stevenson Heating and Air, Danco Enterprises, and Premier Health. As a young adult, Doug worked as a DJ at USA Roller Skating Rink. He loved his skating family and went weekly for most of his adult life, even after his health took away his ability to skate. In his free time, Doug enjoyed camping with family, showing off his 68 Chevy, and watching the Bengals with his friends. However, there was nothing he loved more than riding his Harley, especially with his wife and his father. Through his love of motorcycles, cars, and camping, he built a community that he truly cherished and made lasting friendships with so many incredible people that meant the world to him. Doug was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and most of all a friend. He was the kind of man that would drop anything to help out a friend, and to many, he was not just a friend, but a steady listening ear and source of wisdom. He lived his life surrounded by the people he loved, and he had a rare gift for making people feel welcome and understood. He was a free spirit, a straight shooter, and a “misfit” as he liked to say. He never felt the need to seek approval or fit into a mold. He was authentic, unfiltered, and unapologetically himself in every season of life. His laughter was contagious and he had an effortless sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest moments in life. Doug was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents - Elmer and Hazel Miller, and his paternal grandparents - Eugene and M. Eileen Fields. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Theresa Fields. His parents - Stephen (Julia) Fields, and Brenda (Tom) Webster. Six children - Brittany (Justin) Burke, Courtney (Carrie) Johnson, Aaron, Alexis, and Zachary Helm, and Amber (Jake) Wening. Five Grandchildren - Allison, Logan, and Lennon Burke, and Aurorah and Aria Wening; and sister Amy Kahlert. He is also survived by many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7th, from 1pm-4pm at American Legion post 286. 2251 North Dayton Lakeview Rd, New Carlisle, OH, 45344. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.trostelchapman.com
