Michael “Mike” Owen Flinn, 75, of New Carlisle, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was a devoted husband, beloved father and “papa”, a gifted carpenter, and a humble follower of Jesus Christ.
Mike was born February 11, 1949, in Dayton, OH, the son of the late Norbert “Mick” and Mary Flinn. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1967. He was a journeyman carpenter and spent over four decades working for The Schaefer Group, Inc. in Dayton, Ohio where he retired as a Vice President. In 1977, he married the love of his life and best friend, Peggy. Together they raised four daughters, teaching each of them to love and follow the Lord. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Carlisle, where he served as head trustee for 19 years. Mike loved the outdoors. He was the local wild mushroom advisor and an avid fisherman who could often be found on his favorite ponds and lakes in Ohio or Rice Lake in Canada. He was a lifelong learner whose favorite subjects were the natural world, B-17 and WW2 history, and how-to-fix-anything. Mike will be remembered for his quiet and steady spirit, his unwavering character, his fierce love for his family, and his playful sense of humor. He will be missed dearly, but his family takes comfort in knowing they will be reunited in time thanks to their faith in the promises of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Peggy Lee (Miller) Flinn; daughters Natalie (Scott) Wills, Emily (Steve) Eike, Megan (Caleb) Runkle, and Tracey (Andrew) Ortel; grandchildren Shannon & Jacob Wills, Lucas & Norah Runkle, and Lena Ortel; sister Diana (Don) Cobaugh; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog Belle. Mike is preceded in death by his parents and sister Patsy Pace.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, from 4-8pm at First Baptist Church of New Carlisle, 8870 OH-571, New Carlisle, OH 45344. Mike’s life will be celebrated at a service to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00am at the church. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery.
