Melville Davidson, 93, peacefully left his earthly life on February 17, 2018 in New Carlisle, OH. He was born March 17, 1924 to Raymond Dewey and Bessie Lucille (Vandeveer) Davidson on the Pike Township farm his grandfather Jacob bought in 1882 and that he still owned. He was a 1942 graduate of North Hampton High School. He married Alice Group on October 25, 1947 and she survives. He is also survived by a daughter Teresa (Phil) Frantz and a son James (Linda); grandchildren Jim (Aimee) Frantz, Michael (Jennifer) Frantz, Katie (Aaron) Reed and Kevin (Sara) Davidson; 6 great-grandchildren, James and Morgan Frantz, Drew and Ethan Reed, and Parker Melville and Nolan Davidson; sister Ida Ketchum, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Frank, Glendon and Freida Iddings as well as an infant daughter Cynthia. Melville and Alice were full-time farmers and he lived his entire life on the same road. He served in the Merchant Marines in 1945. He was a very active, life-long member of Alcony Grace Church, a 75-year member of Ohio State Grange, a Farm Bureau member, and had been on the Clark County Soil and Water District, in the New Carlisle Community Chorus, on Northwestern’s School Board, a school bus driver, and an election pole worker, as well as being involved in other community activities. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home, New Carlisle. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Alcony Grace Church, 1045 S. Alcony-Conover Rd, Troy, OH 45373 with Rev. Stephen Marcum officiating. Burial will follow in Casstown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alcony Grace Church, 1045 S. Alcony-Conover Rd, Troy, OH 45373 or Pike Township Fire & EMS.
