Martha T. Harley
February 17, 1927 – October 23, 2026
Martha T. “Marty” Harley, beloved wife of Robert E. “Bob” Harley, died after a brief illness on October 23, 2026, at the age of 99.
Earlier this year, Marty and Bob celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Marty attended the University of Cincinnati, before she became a licensed real estate agent. She subsequently managed retail stores for Federated Department Stores, in both Cincinnati and Oxford, Ohio.
She met her future husband while both were active members of the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. After their marriage, they became and remained long time members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield, Ohio and frequently attended North Hampton Community Church, North Hampton, Ohio.
Marty was a founding member of the Master Gardeners of Clark County, Ohio. She was a passionate gardener who fervently supported the development of public flower gardens within Springfield.
Marty joined her husband in competitive sailing on Lake Erie and in Chesapeake Bay. They regularly raced on Calvin Lake and occasionally sailed between Ohio and Ontario, Canada. She supported Bob’s bicycling throughout Ohio by riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle alongside him. Marty and Bob also frequently enjoyed riding their tandem bike. They traveled annually to Maine and enjoyed their trips to England, Scotland, the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, and the Pacific Northwest.
In addition to being survived by her husband Robert E. Harley, she is survived by her nephew Scott Johnson and niece Suzanne Johnson Dortch. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hazel Thompson and sister Carolyn T. Johnson.
Services to celebrate Martha’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Master Gardeners of Clark County, Ohio, 3130 E. Main Street, Springfield, Ohio 45505, Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio 45503, or North Hampton Community Church, P.O. Box 277, North Hampton, Ohio 45349.
