Mark Mason Miller

August 2, 1956 — August 5, 2020

Mark Mason Miller 64 died on August 5, 2020. Mark is survived by his wife of 45 years Gina (Wagner) Miller, daughters Monica Miller and Sarah Brown, Granddaughters Brooklyn Miller, Justice Cochran, Lyric Musick, and Isabel Brown, close family and friends but most importantly his four legged girl Bella. Mark is proceeded in death by his mom Doris (Corvin) Inskeep, father Albert Miller, and sister Sharon Moon.

Mark was loved and respected by everyone and known for his sense of humor and for his love of music. Mark was an avid OSU and Dallas Cowboys fan. He worked for 30 years at Rhoades Paper Box and then Yamada. In his spare time, Mark dedicated countless hours to officiating high school, middle school, and youth baseball, basketball, and football. He was a member of the Southwestern Ohio Football Officials Association for 30 years, a combined total of 22 years with the Springfield Umpire Association and West Central Umpire Association, and nearly 10 years as a member of the Southwestern Ohio Basketball Officials Association. He held numerous association positions, including the president, vice-president, board member, rules and mechanics interpreter. Mark was one of the first OHSAA’s playoff observers, and assisted with the instruction of the state’s 7v7 tournaments.

He was often referred to by his officiating peers as an "official’s official." Coaches loved Mark because he was friendly and approachable on the field. Not only did he spend countless hours perfecting his craft, but he spent time giving back to other officials by providing positive, constructive feedback to officials of all experiences. He made it fun for many and taught so many life lessons through his words and actions. He could be counted on to remember every small detail of the thousands of games he worked over his 30 years of officiating, but as his wife routinely joked, he couldn’t remember her birthday or wedding anniversary. His favorite sport of all was football. There was nothing better for him than a Friday night under the lights with four of his closest friends. Undoubtedly, he is off already, officiating bigger games!

Gathering to honor Mark will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com.
