Marilyn Joan Hulsey

77, formerly of New Carlisle and Tipp City, died on Saturday, Dec. 30. Marilyn passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members, at St. Leonard Franciscan Living Community in Centerville. She was born at home on April 16, 1940 in what is now Fairborn to Catherine (Miller) and David Spurgeon MacQuarrie. She overcame a childhood bout of rheumatic fever and went on to graduate in 1958 from Julienne High School in Dayton and to attend the University of Dayton. Marilyn worked for many years as a receptionist in the New Carlisle offices of Doctors Robert Cunningham, Ray Reed, Duane Mast and Robert Belisle. But she always said she found her true calling as a nurse’s aide, first at Dayview Care Center and then at Belle Manor Nursing home in New Carlisle. She was an avid collector, filling her home with houseplants, birds, dogs, and cats. The mother of six children, Marilyn viewed the impending birth of each new grandchild or great-grandchild with anticipation and joy. And there was plenty of joy for her as she had 20 grandkids and five great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Hulsey; her sister, Mary Catherine MacQuarrie; and her friend and fellow dog-enthusiast, Diane Holtvoigt. Marilyn is survived by her brother, Fr. John MacQuarrie of Springfield, her children and their spouses, Cindy Osborne-Conley (Levi), Lynn Hulsey (Neal Crabill), Lori Murphy, Marnie Winget (Tony), Jim Hulsey (Natalie) and David Hulsey. She also is survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Noah Osborne, Rachel Decker (Dustin), Abbey Mercer (Joshua), Bekah Dellinger (Braden), Jesse Osborne, Ethan Osborne, Judah Osborne, Eli Osborne, Caitlin Crabill, Anna Crabill, Gabrielle Hulsey, Avery Hulsey, Aaron Winget, Alex Winget, Nicole Wheeler, Bethany Wholihan, Benjamin Wholihan (Ali), Patrick Wholihan, Tristan Murphy and Chloe Slutz. Marilyn’s great-grandchildren also survive her. They are Austin Jenkins, Noah Osborne Jr., Lydia Decker, Jayden Hatcher and Peyton Wholihan. Marilyn is also survived by her dear friend of 64 years, Beryl Lee of Wetherby, Yorkshire, England, and her friend Maurine "Aunt Liz" Smith of California. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 209 W. Lake Ave., New Carlisle with Fr. MacQuarrie officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, in New Carlisle, Ohio Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.trostelchapman.com
