On the evening of August 2, 2025, Lori Ann Scanlan McDonald passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Lori fought a courageous battle against cancer with grace, faith, and bravery. She was 65 years old. Lori was born in Springfield, Ohio to Paul and Marilyn (Roller) Scanlan and grew up just outside of Donnelsville. She was a 1978 graduate of Tecumseh High School. Lori worked for Assurant and recently celebrated her 20-year service anniversary. Lori was a beloved soul and touched many lives with her acts of friendship, voluntarism, and kindness. She was fun to be around and could always make you laugh and lift your spirits. Lori cherished being a mom and a “Nanner” to her grandchildren. Lori was a member of St. Teresa’s Church and helped to provide food to the elderly homebound in the Springfield community. Lori is survived by her loving Mom and Stepdad, Marilyn and Denny Kelly, brothers Jeff (Julie) Scanlan and Brian (Angie) Scanlan, Stepsiblings Debi Kelly (Monte Bost), Brian (Mary) Kelly, Denise Dunn, and Sean (Amy) Kelly. She leaves her children, Brooke (Robert) Carter Guha, Alex Carter, and Brandon (Halie) Carter to cherish her memory. Her grandchildren, Mazzy, Crew, and Tripp Carter were the light of her life and will miss her always. Lori’s niece and nephews, Cory Scanlan (Emma Cox), Ross (Julie) Scanlan, Kiley Scanlan, Drew (Olivia) Scanlan, and Taylor (Cheyenne Sarver) Scanlan, will forever miss their “cool aunt”. Lori’s aunts, Joanne DeWine, Rita Price, and Francis Stokes, along with a host of cousins that have many wonderful memories of Lori. Lori is survived by her husband of 19 years, Scott McDonald as well as sister-in-law Connie Fain, brothers-in-law Troy McDonald, Mark McDonald, and Rod Yeoman, stepdaughter Brittany (John) Fout, and step grandchildren Brielle Cline, Dixon, and Braden Fout. Lori was preceded in death by her dad, Paul Scanlan. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 8th, 2025, at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 209 West Lake Ave., New Carlisle, Ohio. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Springfield Soup Kitchen, Second Harvest Food Bank, or Miami Valley Hospital Foundation.
