Larry G. Reed, 69, of Springfield passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 in his home, following many years of battling cancer. He was born January 13, 1949 in Batavia, OH the son of Elden Leroy and Ida Ellen (Brewer) Reed. He was the son of a sharecropper and grew up with a love of the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping. Larry served honorably in the United States Army including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He had worked many years for Klosterman’s Bakery and retired from Moyno as a security officer. Larry was a member of the Eagles, VFW Post 8673, and a life member of the DAV. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Melody B. (Paden) Reed; his daughter Ida (Jeff) Risner of Springfield; five grandchildren Marissa Reed, Emily Pigg, Sarah Reed, Cindy Reed and Joshua Risner; 15 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Larry was the last of his immediate family and is preceded in death by his parents; sons Larry David and Franklin Gene Reed; three brothers and five sisters. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 – 10 AM. in RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Larry’s life will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow in Dayton National Cemetery with Military Honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com.
