Kenneth L. Melvin

A kind and gentle man, Kenneth L. Melvin, 82, passed away on Wednesday, OCT 24, 2019 from complications of dementia. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 47 years, Judith (Gatten) Melvin and family. Kenneth was born in Springfield, Ohio on December 5, 1936 to Dorothy (Littleton) Melvin and Kenneth E. Melvin. He graduated from Springfield High School and attended The Ohio State University. He worked for 35 years at Cooper Industries. Ken loved to travel. He was an avid golfer, playing on courses in all 50 states, and loved sports of all kinds, especially OSU football. He also enjoyed a good game of cards with his beloved sister-in-law Susan Gatten and her husband James Burns. He was a loving father to Julie (Greg) Alvino, Douglas (Terri) Melvin, Allyson (Wendy) McDuffie, Andrew McDuffie, and David (Simone) McDuffie. His 11 grandchildren include, Jennifer, Sarah, Jessica, Christy, Amanda (deceased), Melissa, Lauren, Jonathan, Madison, Branden, Avery and Meghan. His siblings are James (Nancy) Melvin, Jean (Greg) Sadler, and step-sisters Diane Blanchard and Carol Rich. Ken is also survived by brother-in-law Michael Gatten and sister-in-law Cindy (Davis) Gatten, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Ken had a great sense of humor, was a true gentleman, and a trusted friend to many. He was also a steady, dependable and loving husband and father. He will forever be missed by a large community of family and friends. The family would like to extend heart-felt appreciation to Kindred Hospice and Forest Glen Memory Care unit staff. Contributions in Ken’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME.
