Keith Alan Pencil (73) passed away on July 17th at Hospice of Dayton after a year of declining health.
He was born October 18th, 1947 in Springfield Ohio and was adopted by Glendon L Pencil and Doris L (Ulery) Pencil in 1950.
He is survived by daughter Dawn Pencil and her husband Jeff Marzka of Park City, Utah as well as his son Brad Pencil and his wife Laura (Lince) of Apopka Florida. Keith was adored by four grandchildren, Bodi Marzka, Sienna Pencil, Stryder Marzka, and Lucas Pencil.
Also surviving is a niece, Amy (West) Miller, her husband Matt and their children Alexis Miller and Madison Miller, former spouse of 26 years Brenda Tutt, former spouse of 15 years Nancy Sule and her daughters Jennifer (Keenan) Kennedy, Melissa (Keenan) Amburgey and their families, special friend Jeff Tutt, and many other friends and relatives.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Michelle (Pencil) West.
Keith is a 1965 graduate of Northwestern High School and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in North Hampton Ohio.
He served in the Navy from 1967 – 1970 during the Vietnam era and was assigned to ships touring the Caribbean and Mediterranean as a Radioman.
Keith was employed for 37 years as a Letter Carrier in the city of New Carlisle and earned several awards including the Million Mile Club for attaining a million miles or 30 years of safe driving without an accident. However, the majority of his routes were in town, walking as much as 11 miles per day.
He also owned Pencil’s Tool Sharpening for many years working first with his father, Glendon and then taking on the business himself until the mid 90’s. In his spare time he was a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Pike Township EMS and coached softball and baseball for his children’s teams through NAAA.
Growing up on family farms, Keith considered himself a "country boy". He especially loved fishing, and sport shooting. He also was an ardent sports fan. He loved golfing as much as anyone can, and was a supporter of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Dallas Cowboys.
As Keith was lover of animals, he took in many, many strays and had many beloved pets during his lifetime. Any expressions of love may be sent in Keith’s name to Pawsitive Warrior Rescue P.O. Box 8 New Carlisle, Ohio 45344 or also to Hospice of Dayton.
Final arrangements are being prepared by Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar and Fraley Funeral Home.
There will be no service at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
