Keith A. Hayden

Jul 7, 1961 — Oct 7, 2026

Springfield

The world lost a creative, reclusive, iconic spirit when Keith A. Hayden passed into the great beyond on October 7th, 2026. Keith was born in Springfield Ohio on July 7, 1961, to Priscilla A. (Redin) and Albert A. Hayden. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Anne M. Hayden-Hall. He is survived by his nephew James Hall and niece Kimberly Kelly and many great nieces and nephews. He attended Springfield Ohio Public Schools and graduated from North High School. His education was furthered by attending college at Morehead State University in Kentucky, the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music and an internship at Berklee School of Music in Boston.

His life dream was to play music as that was his true passion. That dream was realized when he moved to Toluca Mexico and began a career playing the double bass for the Toluca and Mexico City Symphony Orchestras. His love for music, writing songs and performing, continued throughout his life. He and his friends enjoyed many evenings sitting around the living room playing music. In addition to music, he was a fervent cyclist, riding his bike daily, covering long distances at speeds his friends could never beat, leaving them in his dust.

As a man with exquisite taste, Keith had a great appreciation for an item finely made and well designed, especially a well-crafted instrument. He loved discussing the admirable qualities of anything; guitars, music, fresh avocados, even a good coffee. Technology fascinated him, and he possessed an impressive ability to work with it, often improving on it with little external influence. He had a positive impact on those fortunate to know him; sharing laughter, basking in his goodness, discussing obscure concepts, his thoughts, and exploring his profound inner and outer worlds. He will be remembered as a kind, unique, energetic force and trustworthy friend. His influence will live on in our memories and his music. He will be enormously missed by all.

Keith had an idyllic childhood growing up in a neighborhood surrounded by families and many children. The neighborhood mothers loved and embraced them all, and felt a communal responsibility towards them, claiming all the children as theirs. This kind of warm, safe community fostered creativity and exploration for the children. He was a prime example of that influence, with his curious, imaginative, gifted mind. His neighbors and friends hold many cherished memories of him playing music, riding bikes, delivering newspapers and boisterously singing “Annie’s Song” while wandering the streets at 6am. As his health declined in recent years that same neighborhood continued to embrace and care for him, driving him places, shopping for him and mowing his lawn.

Keith’s family would like to extend their utmost sincere gratitude to his neighbors and friends, especially Wendy and Yvonne Howard who have been so attentive, caring, loving and helpful to him. The family is also immensely grateful to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton and Trotwood Health and Rehab for the compassionate and skillful care they provided to Keith in recent months.

There will be no visitation at this time. A celebration of Keith’s life will be announced and held at a later date.

To honor Keith’s life, donations can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America at give.hdsa.org or the Hereditary Disease Foundation for Huntington’s Disease Research at hdfoundation.org.
