Joe L Erwin also known to many as “Whiskey Nose” 82, of South Charleston passed away Saturday June 20, 2026, at Soin Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Clifton Ohio on January 9, 1944, to the late William Erwin and Lois Dement Erwin. Joe grew up in Clifton surrounded by his Dement and Erwin families. He loved to tell a good story about his childhood days in Clifton. He always said he was the highest jumper and hardest rock thrower that ever came out of Clifton. He was a proud and lifetime member of Ironworkers Local 290 in Dayton OH for over 55 years. The friendships he made through the Ironworkers Brotherhood were immense. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially mushroom hunting and always looked forward to it every spring. He was a member of the class of 1962 at Cedarville High School. For the past few years, he enjoyed getting together with his classmates every fall for a picnic and fellowship. He would have celebrated 42 years of sobriety on July 25th. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Cathy Erwin. Joe is survived by his children, Kelly (Chris) Kitchen, Melinda (Doug)Toms, Ernie (Jeannine) Erwin, and Stepson Rob (Andrea)Ross Grandchildren Kari (Brian) Cooper, Kati (Ty) Price, Jamie Weeks, Colton Weeks, Jenna (Jeff) Hall, Juliana (Brant) Wickline, Jessica Erwin, and step granddaughter Ginny (Alex) Fahrnbach. Great grandchildren Ellie, Charlie & Holden Price, RJ Cooper, Fallon, Weston, & Whitley Weeks, Greenlee & Scarlett Hall, Jaxon and Barrett Wickline. Special friends Tony Entler, Jeff Levenier, and Troy Harphant. The family will receive friends and family Tuesday July 7th at the funeral home from 5-7 pm with the funeral service Wednesday July 8th at 10:30 am with Pastor Dick McIntosh officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at Clifton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington Ave Dayton OH 45420.
