Thomas, Jesse Ashwood, 84 of South Charleston passed away June 7, 2021, in his residence. He was born in Waterloo, Ohio on June 27, 1936, the son of John and Gladys Thomas. Jesse had worked for Kuhn’s Concrete and Otis Elevator, and he really enjoyed his time at Walmart. He never met a stranger and was always the life of every "party". He could be seen around South Charleston on his scooter with a smile and a bag of candy. His motto was always "One Day at A Time". Jesse could also fall into the category of George Jones Biggest Fan. He was a regular at McDonald’s even if was just for a cup of coffee. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents from a train accident when he was 5; brothers Fred C. and Paul; sister Sue; son John Earl Thomas; and great-grandson Anthony Mason Hall. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Wanda (Ratliff) Thomas; daughters Mary (Mike) Brightman, Jane (Roger) Travis, Donna (Jim) Hall and Christina (Robert Fuller) Evans; sister Helen Thomas; grandchildren Carl (Ashley) Baker, Jesse Evans, Michael (Brandy) Hall, Tiffany (Chaz) Keglor, Bryan (Beth) Brightman, Courtney (Adam) Shaw and Joshua (Carrie) Hall; great-grandchildren Kelsey, Hunter, Alex, Christopher, Braydon, Liam, Tyler, Eli, Rubyjune, Sherye, Kaelyn, Jacob and Jada. Special family members John (Penny) Ratliff, Paul (Nancy) Hallaway and Mike (Doris) Ratliff. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Services to honor Jesse will be Friday at Noon in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Pastor Steve Conrad officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
