Mrs. Jerenia Edna Rucker, RN, “Honey”, age 90, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 16, 2025. She was born January 11, 1935, in Gallup, Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late Ruben Gideon and Minervia York Parson.
In addition to her parents, Honey was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Victor Rucker; son, Franklin Aaron Rucker; and beloved sister, Jeannette Buck.
Honey graduated from Urbana High School in 1953 and from The Springfield City Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. She worked as a nurse and nursing supervisor, taking early retirement only to return to her nursing supervisor position before fully retiring from Community Hospital and nursing in 2008. Honey was a devoted and loving mother to her son, Reuben, a dedicated nurse, an active member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church, an avid wooden boat enthusiast and loved spending time with her family.
Honey is survived by her son, Victor Reuben Rucker; step-daughter, Tara (Rodger) Shepherd; step-son, Todd (Lana) Rucker; special nieces: Rose Stockton (Rob Thomas) and Laura Ann Reynolds; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Springfield, Ohio with funeral services immediately following. Honey will be laid to rest at Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wooded Glen and Care 360 Hospice for the care they gave, and the Dayton Ohio Nurse Honor Guard for their lovely tribute.
