Jean West

December 8, 1935 — February 3, 2019

West, Suroba Jean (Kendall) 83; of Springfield, Ohio passed away on February 3rd, 2019. Jean was surrounded by her loving family as she was called to be by her husband’s side, fourteen days after his passing. She was born on her mother’s birthday, December 8th, in 1935 on the Brink Hill in West Virginia. Her parents, Sam and Virchie (Brewer) Kendall, also had a son, Ardis B. Kendall. Jean graduated from Mannington, HS in Mannington, West Virginia in 1953, where she was a proud majorette. She married John W. West, also from Mannington, WV, in 1957 and followed him in his teaching career to Pruntytown, WV, Lancaster, OH, Glenford, OH, and finally to South Charleston, OH. Jean and Johnny moved to a retirement village in Spruce Creek, Florida in 1992, where she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bingo on a normal basis. They returned to Ohio due to their health in 2014 and from then on resided with their eldest daughter, Brenda DeWine, and her family. Jean was a proud employee of Shoemakers in South Charleston, OH, Wilson Freight in Springfield, OH, and Winn Dixie in The Villages, FL. Jean is survived by her children Brenda (John) DeWine, Springfield, OH, Glenda (John) Radel, Trenton, OH, and Dave (Rhonda) West, Springfield, OH; her grandchildren Ryan Radel, Eli West (Jaimie), Ashley (Colin) Foley, Scott Radel (Fiancé Lisa), Betsy DeWine (Fiancé Tyler), Austin Radel (Fiancé April), Alex West, and Kendall DeWine; her great grandchildren Carter, Nora, Nova and Calvin West, Saige, Elyse and Lucas Foley; her sister-in-law Sally Kendall; her niece Teresa Kendall and nephew Kevin Kendall; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and loving nieces and nephews. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her loving husband, Johnny West. The family would like to thank the Community Mercy Hospice center, and the many caregivers and therapists in/out of the home, especially kidney Dr. Sanju A. Varghese. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at Richards, Raff, and Dunbar Memorial Home. Services to honor Jean will be Saturday, February 9th, 2019, in the Masters Funeral Home in Mannington, WV at Noon with visiting hours from 11 am to 12 pm. Burial will follow at the Mannington Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the South Charleston Community Club % Security National Bank 102 S.
