James Russell "Opie" Suther

James Russell “Opie” Suther, 39, passed away on October 19, 2025. Opie was born on June 9, 1986, in Springfield, OH, the son of Kathryn Ann “Kathy” Suther and Johnny Russell Cropper.

Opie loved to fish, hunt, play pool, smoke meat, tinkering on different projects in the garage, and doing odd jobs to help others.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy, and his grandfather, Cletus Suther.

He leaves behind his father; brothers Brandon Suther and Cody Broyles; sisters Katie Cropper, Taylor Whitaker, and Alyssa Cropper; his best friends Kevin and Tim; his grandma Elaine Suther; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He will be buried in the Medway Cemetery, next to his mom in a private servce. A Celebration of Opie’s Life will be held at the VFW, Post 9684, 1587 N. Lake Rd., New Carlisle, OH 45344, on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 1-5pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home.
