Herbert "Gene" Eugene Durst

Herbert Eugene "Gene" Durst, 84, formerly of Springfield entered into rest Monday, October 30, 2017 in Augusta, GA. Gene was born and raised in Augusta, enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in the Korean War aboard the USS Carnesse and the USS Higbee. He retired as a supervisor with Navistar and was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta. He was the loving husband of Mary Becknell Durst; and is also survived by his children Terry and Jerry Durst, and Vicky (Tony) Conley, all of Springfield; five stepchildren; and numerous grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Helen (Pitzer) Durst; and sons Bryan and Richard Durst. Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM. in the Chapel at Ferncliff Cemetery with Rev. Frank Miesse officiating. The family will receive visitors from 10 – 11 AM. Burial will follow.
