Glenn R. Steinmetz, 93, of Springfield passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017. Glenn was the fifth of five children born to Roy and Jenny Glenn Steinmetz of Harmony. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Miller of South Charleston and Betty Carter of Springfield, and his two brothers, Steve of Springfield and Byron of Miami Florida. Glenn was the father of two sons, Michael and his partner Mary Neville of Cincinnati, and Eric of Toledo. He was the loving grandfather of Brandon and Ryan Steinmetz and Emily Bacon. He had many nieces and nephews and several great grandchildren. Glenn was born on Oct 13, 1924 and except for a short period of living in Toledo, he was a lifelong Springfield resident. He proudly served in the U.S army and served a combat tour on Guadalcanal duringWWII. After the war he returned home and worked for Standard Oil Co. After 30+ years he became an independent dealer for Sohio. He enjoyed many hobbies such as bowling, golf, and playing cards with his friends. He was an excellent cook and baker and he reveled in preparing holiday meals for his family. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed decades of friendship on the links at the local courses. In his later years he was a regular at the localVFW. His lifelong passion was baseball and especially his support of his Cincinnati Reds. He was able to enjoy many Reds milestones in person including All-star games, World Series Championships, opening day games and Pete Rose's record breaking hit. Glenn was a kind, loving and generous man who loved the quiet life he lived. He was always ready to be the helping hand to anyone who needed an assist. He was a devoted, caring father and will be truly missed. He will be buried at Fletcher Chapel Cemetery on Saturday March 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
