Gerald “Sonny” L. Morris, 87, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, on February 25, 1939, to the late Norman and Theresa Morris. He grew up in New Carlisle and devoted his life in many ways to the community. He owned and operated New Carlisle Auto Parts, was very involved with Boy Scouts for many years, was involved in New Carlisle Cubs Football, served as the Commissioner of New Carlisle Baseball Association, coached the Tecumseh High School Baseball team, and many still call him “Coach” to this day. He was a flying stock and modified car racer, he earned the “Service to Mankind” award from the New Carlisle Sertoma Club, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Sonny is survived by his children, Katrina (Tim) Emberton, Chris (Amanda) Morris and Marcy High; grandchildren, TJ (Christina) Emberton, Jacob (Athena) Emberton, Anthony Emberton, Brandon High, Alex (Paige) High, Megan Morris and Emilee Morris; great grandchildren, Lillian, Tessa, Lincoln, and Isaac Emberton, Weston High. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Morris, and great-granddaughter Audrey Emberton, sisters Nancy, Barbara, and Mary Lou.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a service at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar, and Fraley Funeral Home, and burial at New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at trostelchapman.com
