Gary Alan Brooks

Gary Alan Brooks, 63, was called to join his Heavenly Father unexpectedly on July 16, 2020 while vacationing in Florida. He was born on November 21, 1956 in Springfield, OH to Ernest and Julia (McWilliams) Brooks. Gary was preceded in death by his brother Donald Brooks, sister Victoria Strader (Brooks), parents Ernest and Julia Brooks, and brother William Brooks. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 34 years and best friend Beth Kaffenbarger Brooks, sons Jacob (Nicole) Brooks and Zachary Brooks, grandchildren Brighton Brooks, Riku Miller, Brielle Brooks, Rylan Brooks, and Oliver Brooks, siblings Carol (Tollman) Smith, John Brooks, Ginny (Bud) Davis, and Brenda (Daniel) Sherrock, sibling-in-laws Carolyn (Butch) Grimm, Linda (John) Turner, Nancy (Terry) Circle, Kenneth (Jean) Kaffenbarger, and Kris (Chris) Kaffenbarger, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Gary was a graduate of Greenon High School, obtained an Associate of Business through Clark State Community College and a Doctorate of Theology through Grace Bible College and Seminary. Gary retired as a District Manager of Hardees and was recently working as a delivery driver for Panera. He was the Pastor of Promise Christian Fellowship for many years. Gary loved to minister and spread God’s word. Throughout his time in Springfield, Gary remained very active in the community. He coached boys basketball at Snowhill Elementary, mentored underprivileged youth through Boys Town, and was a member of Promise Keepers and Marriage Keepers. As a sports enthusiast, Gary loved playing basketball and softball. He loved celebrating every holiday, taking his family on vacations, especially to Myrtle Beach, attending live sporting events and concerts. Gary would spend his downtime watching television and old movies, expanding his collections of various memorabilia and spoiling his grandchildren. His favorite pastime was easily spending time with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be in made in honor of Gary’s giving heart to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals or Angioma Alliance. Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2020 from 5-8pm at Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home. The service to honor Gary will be Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 10:00am in the memorial home, with Pastor Alan Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, South Charleston.
