Eva Lynn Alspaugh, warmly known to many as Lynn, passed away peacefully at her home in New Carlisle, Ohio, on April 13, 2026. Born on January 13, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, Lynn’s life was a testament to boundless love, unwavering kindness, and a heart that truly prioritized the well-being of all who crossed her path.
Lynn was a loving wife and mother, revered for her selflessness and her remarkable ability to make anything happen for those she cherished. She carried a rare and beautiful gift: the tendency to see only the good in everyone. Her generosity and nurturing spirit created a home filled with warmth, comfort, and joy—a sanctuary where laughter and love were constants.
She was blessed to share her life with her devoted husband, James Alspaugh, who stood by her side through every chapter. Her daughters, Melissa Smith and Brandi Whitt (Bill), and son Scott Sumner (Chris), were beneficiaries of Lynn’s endless encouragement and tenderness.
Her legacy flourishes in the hearts of her grandchildren—Emily Leet (Jacob), Brooklyn Smith, Cason Smith (Kelcee), Tyler Gaus (Brittney), Brandon Sumner (Halle), Kylie Mahood (Brendon), and Logan Sumner—each carrying forward the love and values she instilled. She was also a proud great-grandmother to thirteen. The bond of family extended to her siblings, brother Jim Smith (Karen), and sister Anita Conley. In addition, Lynn embraced her role as stepmother to Jimmy Alspaugh (Roxanne), Mark Alspaugh, and Jason Alspaugh (Kirby).
Though Lynn’s parents, Homer and Edna Smith, and her brother David Smith, preceded her in death, their memory lived on vividly through her. Lynn’s passing leaves a profound void, yet her spirit remains a guiding light to all who knew her.
In reflecting on Lynn’s life, we remember a woman who was more than just a beloved member of her family—she was their heart and soul. Her kindness transformed everyday moments into treasured memories, and her unwavering faith in the goodness of others will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Eva Lynn Alspaugh’s gentle soul has now found eternal peace, but her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion endures forever in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and eternally cherished.
A celebration of life will be held on April 26, 2026, from 3-7 pm at the Heritage Hall at Smith Park.
