In Loving Memory of Erna Riley July 28, 1949 – Forever in Our Hearts

Erna Riley was a woman whose love could be felt in every stitch she sewed, every craft she created, every ceramic painted, and every moment she shared with those she cherished most. Her hands were rarely still, always creating something beautiful for someone she loved. Crafting was more than a hobby to Erna—it was one of the many ways she shared her heart with the world.

Her door was always open to those who were struggling and needed the world to steady for just a moment. Erna had a way of steadying it for so many.

Above all else, Erna loved her family deeply. She was a devoted mother to Amanda Collins and John Riley, and a loving mother-in-law to Jillian Riley. She never missed a game, an event, or a special occasion when it came to her children. No errand was left undone, and no need—or even want—went unanswered. Erna was a constant guiding light at every stage of their lives, offering her thoughts and opinions, whether they were asked for or not. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and there was comfort in always knowing exactly where she stood. Even in disagreement, where she stood was always by your side.

Her greatest joy came from being “Grandma” to Ryan Mitchell, Erica Mitchell, Brooke Inlow, Darren Riley, and Alexandria Riley. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every laugh, conversation, and memory they shared together.

Erna built friendships and connections through her job at DESC and her many ventures selling Tupperware, Mary Kay, and Longaberger baskets. Those who knew her will never forget the gatherings that came with them—the laughter, the conversations, and the incredible food. And of course, her brownies, which to this day remain some of the best anyone has ever had. Gary would always joke that the parties were meant to make money, not spend it on QVC—or later, Amazon—but in truth, Erna simply wanted everyone to have what they loved.

Gift-giving was one of her many talents. Every gift was thoughtful, meaningful, and carefully chosen. She made sure everyone was treated equally—same number of gifts, same care put into each—no easy task, but one she took on with joy and pride.

Erna also adored her beloved dogs, Zoey and Milo, who brought her endless companionship and happiness. They were never far from her side and were cherished as part of the family.

Those who knew Erna will fondly remember her spirited personality and the playful debates she shared with Gary during football season—Gary proudly cheering for the Cleveland Browns while Erna passionately defended her beloved Green Bay Packers. Those moments of laughter, teasing, and friendly rivalry became treasured memories for everyone around them.

Erna’s life was filled with love, creativity, warmth, and a deep devotion to the people and pets she held close. She leaves behind a family forever grateful for her kindness, strength, and the countless beautiful memories she created. Though she may no longer be here in person, her love will live on in every handmade treasure, every family gathering, and every heart she touched.

Reunited with her beloved husband, Gary, their love story continues—together again, just as it was always meant to be.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
