Edgar Merrill Roberts

Edgar Merrill Roberts, 92 of New Carlisle, passed away at his home on February 7, 2026. Edgar, also known as Cobby to his friends and family, was born December 27, 1933, in Bladen, Ohio to Glen and Faye (Williams) Roberts. After his graduation from Springfield High School in 1952, he began his career with Knowlton Construction Company of Bellefontaine, Ohio. Edgar started as an apprentice carpenter and worked his way up to Superintendent, the position he held until his retirement in 1998. Edgar also served 3 years in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959. In addition to receiving his marksmanship (rifle) badge and Good Conduct Medal, he served a two-year tour of duty in Japan as a lineman. After returning from overseas, Edgar resumed his employment with Knowlton Construction Company and married Karen Browning on January 7,1961 in Hamlin, West Virginia. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Hargrove, brothers-in- law Roy Hargrove, James Davis, and William Davis. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Karen, daughter Teresa (Richard) Baker of New Carlisle, grandson Daniel Baker of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughter Jennifer Baker of Columbus, Ohio, sisters- in -law Rose Davis of Hamlin, West Virginia, Pansie Davis of Mooresboro, North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10-11am with the funeral to honor Edgar beginning at 11:00 am at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home.
