Doris Louise (Ulery) Pencil, 94 formerly of the New Carlisle area passed away July 12, 2017 at Oakwood Village, one day shy of her 95th birthday. She was born July 13th, 1922 the only child of Leonard and Opal (Shroyer) Ulery. She was the 5th generation born at the Ulery Homestead which had been in the Ulery name for over 100 years. She was a very active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She had a large part in preparing the October Harvest Dinners and was church recorder for 15 years. She loved to quilt with the Asbury quilters each Tuesday and she made and quilted a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. She also loved knitting and made lap robes for all of her older friends and baby blankets for each of her great-grandchildren. She lost her husband of 54 years, Glendon L. Pencil in 1997 and also a daughter Michelle A. (Pencil) West in 2005. She also was preceded in death by a very dear companion of 15 years, Ralph Vienhaus, in 2015. She is survived by a son, Keith Pencil and companion Pam Brown of Dayton, Ohio. Granddaughter Dawn Pencil and Husband Jeff Marzka of Park City, Utah. Grandson Brad Pencil and Wife Laura of Orlando, Florida, Granddaughter Amy (West) Miller and her Husband Matt of Germantown, Ohio as well as 6 Great Grandchildren: Bodi and Stryder Marzka, Sienna and Lucas Pencil and Alexis and Madison Miller. Her family was her love. She also leaves a former Daughter in Law and her Husband, Brenda and Jeff Tutt, as well as special friends Susan (Strome) and Pat McAtee, a Brother in Law, Chester Pencil, several nieces and nephews and still a host of friends. A funeral service to honor Doris will be Tuesday at 12:00 PM in the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home, New Carlisle, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Darcy Dill of Asbury UMC. Burial will follow the service at New Carlisle Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 249 North Hampton Ohio 45349. Love is friendship set on fire. Love is Forever.
