David “Pops” Rhodes
May 14, 1950 – September 14, 2025 New Carlisle, Ohio
David Rhodes of New Carlisle, Ohio, was born in Springfield on May 14, 1950, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on September 14, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Rhodes; his sister, Karin Sue Burchett; and his brother, Paul Rhodes. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beverly; his sons, David (Pamela) Rhodes of Springfield and Jason (Donna) Rhodes of New Carlisle; and his grandchildren, Maci and Jason Rhodes.
David was a proud graduate of Springfield North, Class of 1968. He worked as the UAW Health and Safety Representative for GM Motors for more than 30 years.
He was an avid softball player and loved “chomping at the bit” with his buddies. He thoroughly looked forward to his annual Dale Hollow fishing trips with the men, enjoyed traveling and adventuring with his family, and was a lifelong Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns fan—rest assured, he never answered his phone during those games.
David was a lifelong member of The Salvation Army in Springfield and enjoyed every minute of his church life. He also treasured his years at the Elm Valley Fishing Club, where many of his friends can recall the shenanigans they all got into together. He found joy in his daily drives to Howard’s to look for sales—and, of course, to buy more bananas.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 PM at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home, 507 W. Jefferson Street, New Carlisle, Ohio. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow visitation, with the service led by Pastor Randy Warner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army of Springfield, or, in David’s honor, feel free to place a love offering into a Red Kettle this Christmas season.
His loving spirit and giving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
