DALLAS M. “BUDDY” FAIRCHILD III, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Kettering, Ohio. He was born on February 5, 1950, to Moncy Dallas Jr and Irene (Hale) Fairchild in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Buddy is preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Rachel Fairchild, his parents and two sisters, Nancy Hitchcock and Peggy Shirk.

He is survived by one son, Dallas Fairchild of Ohio; two daughters Connie (Patrick) Stevens of Indiana and Jennifer (Stephen) Raper of Michigan; his life partner, Sharon Whitt; one brother Douglas (Teri) Fairchild, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many others.

Buddy served in the Vietnam War at the age of 19, in the Army 1st Calvary division (Airmobile). The 1st Cavalry Division pioneered helicopter warfare and rapid troop mobility during the Vietnam War. During his service, Buddy was injured and awarded a Purple Heart. However, he refused it stating that other soldiers deserved it more.

He was a good dad, brother and favorite uncle to many. All the neighborhood kids knew they could stop at Buddy’s and get a snack. He was cranky, sometimes non-social, but always had a story to tell. One of his favorite things to do was go back-road driving and listen to music and annoy the people behind him by how slow he drove. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him.

Celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. He will be interred at Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, Ohio.
