Carroll, Clyde Eugene “Gene,” 91, of New Carlisle, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026. He was born August 31, 1934, in Bristol, Tennessee, the son of the late Clyde and Mary Bell (Rhymer) Carroll.
Gene honorably served in both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He served aboard U.S. NAVSTA 3080 during the Korean War. Throughout his military career, he received numerous honors, including the Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal (with bronze service star); Korean Service Medal (with bronze service star); China Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon (with four oak leaf clusters); and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon.
Gene married his sweetheart in 1956, and together they shared a loving home, raised four children, and were stationed in Georgia, Washington, Hawaii, and Ohio. After serving in the Navy, he completed 15 years as a Computer Operations Supervisor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Gene retired with the rank of E-6 Technical Sergeant. Then continued for an additional 13 years as a contractor at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Gene served many years with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster. He was an active member of Colonial Baptist Church, faithfully serving for over 40 years.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife, dedicating much of his time to gardening, and always creating new projects for himself and Edith. He treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Edith Carroll; his children, Ron (Teresa) Carroll, Mark (Stacie) Carroll, and Mike (Caryn) Carroll; grandchildren, Paul Hill, Collin (late Molly) Carroll, Christina (Jordan) Ammons, Katie (Tyler) Lane, Zach Inman, Laurren Carroll, Evan Carroll, and Eli Carroll; and great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Roark, Carter Roark, Cameron Carroll, and Callie Carroll, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving daughter, Deborah Carroll; his brother, Freddie Carroll.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday January 21st from 5pm until 7pm and funeral service will be held on Thursday January 22 at 10am at Colonial Baptist Church located at 8963 Milton Carlisle RD, New Carlisle OH 45344
