Clarence R. Devore Jr., 94, passed away on August 14, 2018. He was a resident of Rickly at Springfield Masonic Community. Clarence was born January 9, 1924 in Akron Ohio. The son of Clarence R. and Alice DeVore, Sr. He graduated from Ellet High School in the Akron OH area. Clarence served his country in the Army in World War II in the 71st Infantry, 44th Division in the Northern France Campaign and Rhineland Campaign. He earned two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and a Good Conduct Ribbon. After the service he was employed as a checker for the Firestone Rubber Company, retiring in 1981. Clarence was never married and lived with his mother until she passed away in 1993. He took care of her at home for several years. He moved to the Ohio Masonic Home in the summer of 1993. He enjoyed raising African violets, orchids, and other flowers. Travelling to the Pennsylvania Dutch Country brought him much joy. While he resided at the Springfield Masonic Community Clarence worked in the train room. He was a Presbyterian at the time of his admission in 1993. Clarence was a Mason for 72 years and a member of Anthony #455 Masonic Lodge in Springfield. In 1994 Clarence was admitted to The Sons of the American Revolution. In May of 2015 Clarence received the Knight of the Legion of Honor Medal from the French government for his service in liberating France in 1945. Clarence, who took care of his mother for several years, was never married. He is survived by one niece, Nancy Wirth of Goodyear AZ. There will be a funeral service for Clarence on Monday August 20, 2018 at 11 AM in the Wooley Chapel (in the York Rite building) at the Springfield Masonic Community with Pastor Bill Warax of the Springfield Church of Christ officiating. Anthony, #455, F&AM will honor Clarence at the service. Burial will follow the funeral at the Ohio Masonic Home Cemetery. Richards Raff and Dunbar Memorial Home is serving the community.
