Bruce W. Dickerson

Bruce W. Dickerson passed from this life on May 9, 2019. He was born on April 7, 1951, the son of Bob R. and Elsie J. Dickerson in Springfield, Ohio. After graduating from Southeastern High School, Bruce began work for Wilson Freight Co, in South Charleston as a dockhand and then as a city driver and eventually a road driver. When the doors closed in 1980 he sought work in Texas with Eitel Container Corporation. This led Bruce to California and back to Memphis, Tennessee until 1990. Bruce then moved home and began a successful career as a third generation farmer on the family farm. As a young boy, Bruce played, worked and hunted in the fields he so loved. As a man he enjoyed hunting deer in Ohio, Michigan, and Montana. Growing up, Bruce was active in football, basketball, FFA and 4-H, showing cattle and hogs at the Clark County Fair. His scramble calf won grand champion in 1967. Later he enjoyed displaying market beef steers from his own herd at the Ohio State Fair of which he had several first place pens. Bruce was a member of the Ohio Cattleman’s Association and the Clark County Cattle Association. Bruce also had a love for dogs throughout his lifespan, and was an avid gun enthusiast and proud member of the NRA. He also collected farm tractors from the 50's and 60's. His military career consisted of 7 years in the Ohio National Guard as a member of the 216th Engineer Battalion stationed in Springfield, Ohio. His duties included truck driver, heavy equipment operator and air compressor operator. Bruce was proceeded in death by this parents and is survived by older brother Lynn and wife Deborah of South Charleston, younger sister LuAnne Black of Carey, North Carolina, nephews Damon (Heidi) Dickerson of Orient, Ohio, Brian (Jen) Dickerson, West Chester, Pennsylvania, Eli (Amy) Black, South Solon, Ohio, Denver Black, South Charleston, Ohio and nieces Tonja Wolf, Grove City, Ohio, Lyndsay Kemmerer, Canal Winchester, Ohio, Courtney Black of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lea (Mike) Henderson, New Richmond, Ohio and great nephews and nieces, John Dickerson, Brandyn and Kailey Wolf, Graham and Georgia Dickerson, Madelyn and Makayla Black, Lily and Jemma Bering, and Griffin and Tate Henderson. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the folks at Home Instead Senior Care, Wooded Glen Senior Living Community and Heartland Hospice for their love and compassion and excellent care for our beloved brother and uncle. A Celebration of Life for Bruce and the sharing of memories with a meal included will be held at The High Street Church of the Nazarene, 1625 E. High St., Springfield starting at 11 am on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Everyone is invited to join in this casual and informal gathering to honor his memory. Pastor Marty Dennis will be officiating.
