Birchel Hamilton

was the 2nd child of five born to the union of Ira and Gladys Hamilton. He was born in McDowell, KY on August 18, 1930. Birchel graduated from McDowell High School in Floyd County, KY in 1947. He completed a threeyear apprenticeship in tool and die making, after which becoming a highly in demand skilled laborer. He worked for several different tool shops before finally settling in to working for Chrysler Corporation. He was valued as one of Chrysler's most competent and reliable employees, retiring in 2001. Birchel married the love of his life Lena Mae Hamilton on March 14, 1953. Birchel and Lena had two children, Mark D Hamilton and Tammie Renee (Smart). Nothing was more important to Birchel than his family and he was never happier than spending time with them and his two grandson’s William Birchel Hamilton and Jon Robert Smart. Birchel loved going for long drives, vacations and spending time with his family and each other. Some of Birchel cherished moments were spent vacationing at Lake Cumberland in Kentucky with his beloved parents and siblings Mazel Stumbo (wife of Collis Stumbo), Harold Hamilton (husband of Peggy Hamilton), and Maxie "Toogie" McMillen (wife of Charles McMillen). Birchel was a loving husband and father with an unconditional love to his family. He showed dedication and devotion and was respected by everyone whom he met and his legacy will be passed on through his family members and passed on to their kids. He is preceded in death by his parents Ira and Gladys Hamilton and his brothers Burnis and Harold and his sister Toogie. He is survived by his wife Lena and immediate family, his sister Mazel as well as by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Birchel will be fondly remembered for, his strength of character, his survivor's spirit and will never be forgotten. A private service for the immediate family is planned at a future date.
