News Death Notice

McWHORTER, Betty L. 90, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 26, 2015 in Oakwood Village. She was born June 3, 1925 in Lockbourne, OH, the daughter of Lawrence and Birdie May Delong. Betty was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church and a past president of the Ladies Democratic Club of Mt. Vernon. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Ivan Cherry McWhorter; sons Lawrence Robert and Gary Lee McWhorter; brothers Lawrence, William and James Delong; sisters Rosemary Estep and Thelma Marie Fultz. Betty is survived by her daughter Iva Nell "Sam" Merritt; grandchildren Deborah Turk, Vicky Bills, Michele Lattimore, Dawn McWhorter and Gerard McWhorter; great-grandchildren Alex, Brittnee, Kaylib, Kyle, Nathan, Vanessa, Kyler, Trevor and Colton; several great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A service to honor Betty's life will be Thursday at 10:30 AM in the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, with her nephew Rev. Orbie Estep officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in Vale Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been requested to the Grace Missionary Building Fund.
