Audrey Jean Elrod

Audrey "Jean" Elrod passed away on August 3, 2025, peacefully with her family by her side. She was born to Fred Whalen and Virginia (Whalen) Gobin on February 2, 1943, in Mitchell, Indiana.

Jean married William Carlos Elrod on October 9, 1960, in Gary, Indiana. They had three children: Bill, Jeff, and Carla. Jean and Carlos were married for 31 years until his passing on May 8, 1992. In addition to late husband, Carlos, Jean is preceded in death by Tim Sullivan, her significant other of 20 years; son, Bill; along with her parents, stepfather, Carl Gobin, and brother: Robert and David Whalen.

Jean is survived by her children: Jeff (Terri) Elrod, and Carla (Todd) Deel; grandchildren: Bobby (Kristy), Shawn (Madison), Josh (Kaylee), Justin, Jessica, and Tawni; great grandchildren: Dillon, Michael, Grace, Henry, Zach, Ryan, Brynlee, Reagan, Logan, and CJ; one great great granddaughter, Elizabeth. Jean also leaves behind six brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, as well as one special niece, Kelly Corps, whom she considered a second daughter.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Richards, Raff, and Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 E. High Street, Springfield. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 12:00pm officiated by Pastor Brandon Williams. Jean will be laid to rest next to her husband Carlos at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinsons Foundation. They also would like to thank the staff of Forest Glen RHC for the wonderful care received, especially from her nurse Rose Bagford.
