Amy W. Knaup

Amy W. Knaup, 99, of Springfield passed to eternal peace on Saturday July 21, 2018. She was born April 2, 1919 in Stockport, England the daughter of William and Alice (Boden) Welsford and arrived in New York City in 1924. Amy attended Columbia University and worked in Riverside Hospital in New York, where she met and married Wesley E. Knaup. They lived in New York and New Jersey and came to Springfield in 1949. Wes was the National President of the Flying Physicians of America and Amy was copilot in her husband’s plane, traveling the United States. She took their children on summer trips to Cape Cod for many years and they made frequent trips to their second home in Gatlinburg, TN. Amy was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, the Clark County Medical Auxiliary, P.E.O. Sorority and the Springfield Museum of Art. She loved artistry, sewing, gardening, hobbies and nature. She is survived by three children Marjorie Kaffenbarger of New Carlisle, Patricia (Neal Amstutz) Sothard of Springfield, and Allan (Katie) Knaup of Columbus, OH; eight grandchildren Sherry (Chris) Eppers, Debbie (Sean) Hart, Greg (Brenda) Kaffenbarger, Ted (Amy) Sothard, Wesley (Ashley) Sothard, Rose (Josh) Knaup, Gretchen (Andrew) Tamplin and Mathew Knaup; fourteen great grandchildren Grant, Dean, Hayden, McKenna, Skylar, Parker, Olivia, Xander, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Nathan, Quinton, Athena and Harper; four great great grandchildren; and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Wesley E. Knaup M.D. and her brother Jim Welsford. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 Noon – 2 P.M. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. The service to honor Amy’s life will be Saturday at 2:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Dr. Steven Fewell officiating. Burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
