Allen Jason Cochran, 37, of Worthington, OH, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born August 23, 1982 in Dayton, OH, the son of Gary and Mary Cochran. Allen is a Master Mason at Goodale Masonic Lodge #372 F. & A.M. and in line as a Junior Warden.
Allen graduated from Tecumseh High School (2001), earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati (2006), and then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in Design Research and Development at Ohio State University (2013). While at the University of Cincinnati, Allen was a member of Sigma Sigma honorary fraternity. During his graduate studies at Ohio State University, Allen was dedicated to the services of his fellow students. Elected by his peers for his outstanding leadership skills, he held several offices within the Council of Graduate Students, including Vice-President and then President. After graduating from Ohio State University, Allen worked as a User Experience Designer at several corporations, most recently at OCLC where he contributed to the redesign of the search software of WorldCat, the world's largest network of library content and services.
Allen loved painting, photography, music (especially the Grateful Dead), dogs, as well as making friends with every person he met, going to the movies, wearing his yellow-framed glasses, helping other people, volunteering with Annie at Pelotonia, cracking a good pun, and redesigning everyone else’s documents (sadly, Allen was not available to re-design this document, so we are quite sure it is not up to his standards!). Allen had a lifelong interest in religion and Buddhism, and had recently become involved with the Center for Pragmatic Buddhism in Columbus, Ohio.
Allen is survived by his parents Mary and Gary Cochran, fiancée Annie Abell, older brother Paul (Brit) Cochran, twin brother Andy (Diana) Cochran, nieces Luna and Naomi (to whom he was known as Uncle Nacho), and best canine friend Guinness. Allen's wishes were to be cremated, and to have a private Masonic service and a family celebration of life, each to be held at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers, Allen would ask you to play a Grateful Dead album, watch your favorite movie, or hug your dog. For those interested, memorial contributions may be made to:

Dear friends,
Thank you for all the prayers, kind words, outpouring of love, flowers and the planting of trees in behalf of our son Allen. Mary and I felt your heartfelt messages and we are filled with gratitude. For those of you that planted a tree, the funeral director told me that those saplings will go for reforesting those places ravaged by forest fires. An activity that Allen would whole heartedly support.
Allen spent his last days at Hospice of Dayton where he received wonderful loving care. Your donation will help support this wonderful service and will continue to offer comfort to patients and their families in times of grief. Words will never be enough to express our appreciation with the care they provide.
Also thank you for your donations to Dayton Children’s Hospital. It became a second home to us while Allen was in treatment for Leukemia. Allen loved volunteering at Pelotonia. This Columbus based charity is an annual bicycle ride that raises money to continue research for a cure to cancer. Both of these charities were a passion for Allen and his fiancé Annie.
Lastly, we want to thank everyone for the love we received. It has helped ease our sorrow and give us the courage to forge on. Thank you all!
Mary & Gary Cochran
